Nukta Fakti verification methodology process
Nukta Fakti was launched on May 1st, 2020, as an initiative aimed at extending efforts to debunk misinformation. It began two years after the launch of our first news portal, Nukta Habari. Initially, we focused on fact-checking misinformation related to COVID-19. NuktaFakti publishes content on various platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram (@NuktaFakti), and our website.
Nukta Fakti, fact-check claims, images, videos, and statements based on verifiable facts or numbers. However, opinions and statements about the future are beyond our scope of verification and are not fact-checkable. Below are the four steps utilized in our editorial process for fact-checking information:
Identification of Claim or Statements: Upon receiving a claim or statement from social media or the audience through a bottom-up approach, the NuktaFakti team closely examines it. Important questions are asked, such as: Is the topic significant? Is the claim presented as a statement of fact or opinion? Does the claim hold importance? This step is crucial in verifying the truth.
Finding Evidence to Support or Refute: After scrutinizing the claim, NuktaFakti identifies evidence and information using authenticated data and other credible sources.
Verification of the Claim: At this stage, the NuktaFakti team seeks different sources, including experts and information, if necessary, to fact-check the claim thoroughly.
Reporting, Writing, and Providing Evidence: Following research, the Nukta Fakti team compiles a report summarizing the claim and presenting evidence. This evidence may include contacted sources, researched documents, or verified information, such as pictures or videos, all supported by hyperlinks if available. The conclusion is drawn based on the evidence provided and is given a rating.
Publishing Findings: Nukta Fakti publishes fact-checked stories after completing all three stages, while adhering to the editorial policy.
