Nukta Fakti is a non-partisan organization that aims to promote public accuracy through fact-checking initiatives across Tanzania. Despite not being a signatory to IFCN, Nukta Fakti adheres to the code of principles of fact-checking as best practices.
After conducting research and receiving findings, a researcher and a writer discuss with the editor-in-chief about the significance and meaning of the findings before deciding to rate the claim as either correct or incorrect through the evidence collected.
The purpose of rating the claim is to provide clarity by labeling the claim with our Nukta Fakti logo based on the publicly available evidence at the time and we use the following principle to rate the claim:-
- Statement Check
Nukta Fakti looks at what people say to see if it’s true. They focus on what’s actually true, not on opinions or arguments. They look at the words used and the situation.
- Proof Responsibility
Nukta Fakti says the person making a claim has to prove it. They try to check if it’s true, but sometimes they can’t. If they can’t be sure, they say the claim is unproven.
- Important Details
Nukta Fakti cares more about the big picture than tiny mistakes. They like things to be exact, but they don’t need to be perfect unless it really matters.
- Best Evidence
Nukta Fakti uses the best information they can find when checking claims. They know that data isn’t always perfect, but they use the best they can get, like clear facts and interviews that everyone can see.
- Fixing Mistakes
Nukta Fakti wants to be right, so they try to correct any mistakes. If they miss something or get something wrong, they want to know so they can make it right. They’ll tell you if they fix something in their reports.
